Shoulder stabilization

Shoulder stabilization procedures are indiacated in the presence of instability. The main types of instability are unidirectinoal and multidirectional. Uni directional instabilities are usually anterior and traumatic.A Bankart's lesion is usually present (See Bankart's lesion). Multidirctional instablity are tricky to treat surgcially. In these cases the orthopedic surgeon first has to establish truly the type of instability by an examination under anaesthesia and shoulder arthroscopy.

This is followed by a stabilization procedure. Some form of reefing or double breasting of the anterior and inferior and inferior capsule is done. Suture anchors are useful to shorten the operative time.
